Jane Appleton is a talented artist living in Hérault.

Recent works on canvas have been concerned with capturing a fleeting second in time. With the study of blurred motion, Jane expresses frozen movement. Combined with her love of colour these lively, fresh pieces reflect a strong, dynamic spirit spilling out onto the canvas.Works which are confident, daring and full of optimism.

Jane has very generously donated one of her prints on canvas of an award winning oil painting called Never Stop, to Cancer Support France (CSF) – Languedoc.

They have decided to auction the piece to raise money for the association, to help provide linguistic, practical & emotional support in English, for anyone affected by cancer as a patient, family member or carer.

You can read about how to take part in the auction at the end of this article.

The print on canvass is a limited edition, and only one of its kind. It is from Jane’s New Beginnings collection, as seen on her website www.jane-appleton.com.

The size of the print is 120cm x 80cm.

This is what Jane said about the painting Never Stop.

I listen to music often whilst creating artworks. It helps to free the mind, yet sharpen its application. Bach’s Goldberg concertos for the quiet minimal spaces, helping steady the breathing, allowing clarity of thought. Then something high energy with a great beat to trace out the movement and capture the energy in paint. This piece was created listening to Chilli Gonzales’ ‘Ivory tower’ album . The track ‘Never Stop’ has a repetitive rhythm and the rap tells the tale. Cool video on you tube too!

Back to the painting.

I realised the tune had slipped from the ether onto the canvas and now I could see the rhythm dancing across the empty space forming peaks and troughs which metamorphosed into figures.

I paint society. Modern, hurrying society. People just like you and me. Maybe people we were or who we will become. In a rush, speeding into tomorrow. We can’t wait to get our hands on what lies ahead. Hungry for the new, untasted, unheard and unseen. If we hurl ourselves forward with enough vigour we may just reap the rewards. As Daft Punk suggests we need to try harder, better, faster, stronger.

My figurative works are often speaking through white empty space, a very important element. To quote D.Punk again ‘The perfect song is rimmed with silence’. Maybe so are the marks of an artist.

How to take part in the auction

The starting price is €120, but the work of art is worth much more than that, so dig into your pockets for a good cause.

Email us if you want to place a bid, stating your name, and the amount of your bid. If someone places a bid higher than yours, then everyone who has already bid, will be emailed again, to give them the chance of a higher bid. Your name and email address will not be shared with anyone else. The bids start on Sunday 11th November, and the auction closes on Tuesday 20th. The winner will be announced at the Cracker Fair on Sunday 25th November at the CSF stand at the end of the church near the big doors. All of the money will go directly to CSF. We don’t take a commission, and Jane has donated the work of art.
